Born to Fred and Louise (Lukens) Naumann on June 4, 1949.
His Excellency was educated at St. Louis Preparatory Seminary South and graduated in 1967. He graduated from Cardinal Glennon College in 1971.
He completed his theological studies at Kenrick Seminary in 1975 and was ordained to the Priesthood on May 24, 1975.
His assignments are as follows: Transitional Deacon – St. Christopher’s Parish, Florissant, Missouri 1974-1975. Associate Pastor – St. Dominic Savio Parish, Affton, MO, 1975-1979. Associate Pastor – Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, St. Louis, MO, 1979-1984. Part-time Associate Pastor – Most Blessed Sacrament Parish, St. Louis, MO, 1984-1989. Coordinator of the Archdiocesan Pro-Life Committee 1984-1995. Pastor – Ascension Parish, Normandy, MO, 1989-1994. Vicar General, Archdiocese of St. Louis 1994-2003. Ordained Auxiliary Bishop of St. Louis/Titular Bishop of Caput Cilla on September 3, 1997.
The appointment for Administrator of Archdiocese of St. Louis came in October 2003. He was then appointed coadjutor Archbishop of Kansas City, Kansas on January 7, 2004.
He assumed responsibilities of the 4th Archbishop and 11th Bishop of the Archdiocese of Kansas City, Kansas on January 15, 2005.
